Using state of the art technology, the VNUS Closure Fast procedure is a modern alternative to the traditional method of vein stripping surgery.
An outpatient (day surgery) treatment, the closure procedure ensures that most patients can resume normal activities after only 1-2 days.
In this procedure a thin catheter is inserted into the vein through a small opening, using only a single needle stick. The catheter then delivers radiofrequency energy to the vein wall causing it to heat, collapse and then seal shut.
Once the diseased vein is closed, other healthy veins will take over and empty blood from the patient’s legs. Patients will experience notably improved symptoms once the normal return flow is re-established.
Once the procedure is finished and the catheter has been removed, a bandage is administered and the leg may be wrapped for a further day to aid healing. Our highly trained specialists may ask patients to walk and wear compression stockings following the procedure to help speed recovery further.
