Embolisation is a method of blocking abnormal blood vessels and is therefore a very effective technique in treating patients suffering from pelvic vein reflux to deal with the flow of blood in the veins in that area of the body. There are a number of related conditions that can result from this problem so it is very important that is treated in this specialist manner.
Using an x-ray technique, our team at the British Varicose Vein Centre use a thin needle to insert a catheter into the vein that needs treating. When it is correctly in place a metal coil or foam is inserted to block the vein and stop the abnormal flow.
Once this blockage is put in place the reflux of blood will stop and any pelvic varicose veins will initially shrink and then disappear completely.
