Conditions: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Treatment: Blood thinning tablets

Mr JL is a 42 year old gentleman who developed pain in his leg after a long haul flight. His leg was not swollen and looked normal. He was worried the pain was still there after 24 hours and was concerned he had developed a deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

He came to the British Varicose Vein Centre for a Vein Check Up that day and a DVT Screen.

Mr JL also had a blood test called a D-Dimer which showed he had developed a blood clot also his duplex ultrasound showed a small blood clot in the calf vein.

Mr JL was diagnosed with a DVT following his long haul flight. He was immediately started on a course of blood thinning tablets for 3 months and remained well when he stopped the course thankful it was diagnosed and treated straight away.

He was given advice and assessment about the risks of future development of DVT and its prevention on further long haul travel to minimise the chance of this occurring again.
